Carolyne Stossel was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, a Catholic school for girls, where she received the top honour as an art major. Her filmmaking career began by studying at world-class acting schools in New York and L.A. Soon after, Carolyne started her own production company in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she wrote, produced and directed her first short films including Pizza 2-for-1, which placed as a finalist in the Chicago International Film Festival and received video distribution deals in both Canada and the United States. Accumulating nearly a quarter million dollars worth of production over the past few years – with nearly eighty percent of the total being comprised of grants and awards – as a producer-director, Carolyne has created music videos for Canadian recording artists including Grammy-award winners 54*40. The 2003 clip “Take Me Out” which she produced and directed was called “a genuine piece of art” by renowned author and philosopher Ken Wilbur of the Integral Institute. Supported by both VideoFact and Factor grant funding, Carolyne’s clips have been broadcast across Canada on the Much/MuchMoreMusic Network and Country Music Television. Her most recent writing credits include Story Editor on Solo, starring Jon Voight and Cary Elwes, and in 2006, Carolyne was awarded development funding as a screenwriter from Telefilm Canada for the feature film Cereus Blooms at Night, based on the award-winning Canadian novel by Shani Mootoo. As a producer supported by BCFilm’s Passport to Markets program, Carolyne has attended several key film industry markets, including Berlinale 2007, at which she was proud to promote Underdogs: Born to Lose – her first feature film as a writer-producer-director, which has recently received distribution in Canada and was nationally broadcasted on Super Channel throughout 2009 and 2010, and is currently available on the Canadian East Coast trough Rogers Video On Demand. She now turns her attention to Capital C Motion Pictures Inc., an independent production company with key relationships developed with international sales agents, casting directors, local insurance brokers, equipment houses, as well as labs and post-production companies. Currently, Carolyne is in development as the writer-producer-director of three feature films with Capital C Motion Pictures, including On the Train Wreck Home... a female-focused adult drama, and the love story The Good Tenant, which have received development funding from Movie Central, BCFilm and Telefilm Canada. Recently, Carolyne returned from the Toronto International Film Festival and also the 61st Cannes Film Festival Market where she was proud to present these projects as a member of the Marche du Film.
