Location: Beverly Hills-Palm Springs CA Jay Malla Maldonado is principal of Malla Entertainment Group and Chairman of FilmMates Entertainment since November 2006. He joined FilmMates Partners LLC as Director of Business Development and Strategic Marketing in 2002, then two years later, was promoted to Vice President. Malla spearheaded the acquisition of the film, “American Reunion,” and oversaw its domestic theatrical release; he also helped acquire the World Wide Multi-Media film and television library. In 2005, he was promoted to Senior Vice President, supervised the release of “Living Life,” and negotiated a strategic distribution partnership with Vivendi Universal Visual Entertainment which established the company’s home video division. At the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, Malla acquired the worldwide rights to the controversial Turkish film, “Valley of the Wolves, Irak” directed by Sedar Akar and starring Billy Zane, Necati Sasmaz, and Gary Busey. He co-founded the Producers Guild of America New Media Council (PGA) served on the Board of Governors, chaired the finance and sponsorship committees, and spearheaded the Guild’s strategic alliance with INTEL Corporation. From 1997-2002 he was a partner at Lightforce Films, LLC, a production company based in Culver City, California, with film director, Robert Pfitzner. Together, Malla and Pfitzner produced music videos and television commercials, and developed and acquired film properties; The Company was also an early adopter of the new media technology. Seeing an opportunity, Malla approached angel investors who provided the company with early-stage capital to diversify their creative services and launch Lightforce Internet Media, further establishing the company’s presence in the emerging new media landscape. With Malla as executive producer, the company’s creative output flourished, producing streaming media, CG animation, interactive content, and short films; in addition, they launched three distinct, film, music, and casting portals—LFITV.COM, Force 10200.com and Castingdirectorsnet.com—that were featured at the First Annual Yahoo Online Film Festival in 2000. His production credits include Executive Producer of several innovative interactive webisodes: “The Adventures of Ozzie & Quark” and the “iPasha Pop Show,” featuring Olympic Gold Medal Champion Pasha Grishuk. His distinguished business development clients include MGM/UA, Miramax, Gold Circle Entertainment, RCA/BMG, Red Bullet International, Lennox Entertainment, American Benefit Mortgage, Irvine Ventures Audioramp Inc., and Apocalypse Records. His collaboration with Irvine Ventures, a technology incubator founded by former AST computers CEO Safi Qureshi, resulted in the successful launch of AudioRamp—an Intelligent Audio innovative technology for streaming, downloading, managing and sharing content—years before the introduction of iPod. In 1987 two years after relocating to Los Angeles from New York City, he established Malla Entertainment a talent management company where he represented a diverse roster of talent from music recording artists, film directors, screenwriters and actors. Among his clients were Arista recording artist, Babylon A.D.; Atlantic Records artist, Sleez Beez; Epic recording artist, Blitz Speer; EMI artist, Flesh; from the Netherlands, Red Bullet International recording artist, Jetland; from China, singer-songwriter-actress, Lin Liu; directors, Robert Pfitzner and Martin Denning; writers, Karin Kearns, Brett Schneider, Anne Phelan, and Emilio Iasiello. Additionally, Malla’s production experience includes five years on the broadcast staff at WPIX TV Channel 11, New York, and the United Nations Television Broadcasting Studios. His film credits include producer, writer, and director of “Kiss of Deception” and “Incident in the Park.” A former rock musician, Malla has composed and recorded over 50 songs. His Capitol Records debut album “The Koala” was re-released on Fall Out records in 2008 to commemorate the band’s 40th anniversary. He was lead vocalist with legendary rock guitarist The Joe Perry Project (Aerosmith) as well as several high profile New York City rock bands. His music credits include the theme for United Nations Television PBS series “Man Builds Man Destroys” motion picture soundtracks “Kiss of Deception” and “Incident in the Park.” He graduated cum laude from the City College of New York Picker Film Institute with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production.
